OUR SITES

We are working at eight sites across the continental U.S., selected to span a range of key parameters (composition, climate, etc).

background

Our sites cover a wide range of climatic and bedrock conditions, in nearly all possible combinations, and therefore span a wide range in predicted subsurface weathering patterns. Our study design allows us to isolate and explore the effects of individual lithologic and climatic controls on CZ processes.

Conceptual Model of Sites & Weathering

Conceptual model of expected variations of chemical depletion, shape of regolith profile, and saprolite porosity at our sites. Contrasts in bedrock composition, climate, topography, ambient stress, and bedrock fracture density
leading to differing predictions about the depth and degree of weathering and how it varies across hillslopes.
